Bodrum is growing fast, when driving from Bodrum to Turgut Reis we noticed construction next to Metro with the sign Tesco.
Tesco which has just bought the local supermarket chain KIPA in Turkey has now decided to expand by first opening up a super store in Bodrum rather than Istanbul or Izmir.
In Turkey, we have traded ahead of expectations; achieving good sales growth, improved margins and a strong profit increase, whilst lowering prices and raising staff levels in our Kipa stores. We have introduced successfully some store layout changes such as power aisles in non-foods and more space for promotions. Our first new store, a 55,000 square feet hypermarket at Bodrum, will open in July. We will also go live this summer with the introduction into Kipa of a new suite of IT systems called Tesco in a Box to run many key functions in the business, including supply chain and replenishment.
