Bodrum is the place to be for Middle Eastern Royalty in hot summer seasons.

Turkey’s famous holiday resort Bodrum is one of the hottest spots for world wide celebrities and Royal Families…

According to officials in the last 10 years so many celebrities and royal families visited Bodrum with their million dollar yachts.

Among them are Saudi Arabian Prince Mohammad bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah and Prince Hassan of Jordan, all of whom have bought villas and land in Bodrum.

Platinum Magazine, an Arabic-language, prestigious lifestyle publication owned by a member of the Saudi royal family, Prince Maha al-Shaikh, dedicated four pages to Bodrum in one of its recent issues. The article praised Bodrum’s and Yalıkavak’s natural beauty, adding that many international celebrities had made huge investments in Bodrum for holiday purposes.

Mayor of Yalıkavak, Mustafa Saruhan, said the total investments made by Middle Eastern princes, kings and sheiks in the past 10 years are over 500 million euros.

Top executives from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Bahrain and Qatar, who have bought land in Bodrum, are also spending their summer holidays with their families in luxury yachts berthed at Bodrum marinas, he said. The mayor also highlighted an article printed in Platinum Magazine titled, “The city of celebrities and yacht fans,” praising Bodrum and its drawing points.

İbrahim Çeçen of Çeçen Real Estate Investment said scores of top executives, especially from Saudi Arabia, and then from Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon and Egypt had bought land in Yalıkavak, a district of Bodrum, and had built luxury villas worth up to 20 million euros.

Most recently, Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi’s sons Motossim Bilal and Hannibal Gadhafi spent their vacation in Bodrum last summer and were looking for land to build a hotel, Çeçen said. “Land prices in the region have skyrocketed. The reason for this is that celebrities prefer Bodrum and Yalıkavak both for holidays and investments.”

Famous Villa owners in Bodrum
Saudi Arabian Prince Mohammad bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud; Princess Abeer al-Saud, from the family of Saudi Arabia Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Sultan; Saudi Arabian Security Council head Prince Bandar Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud; Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah; his brother, Prince Nasser Sabah al-Ahmet al-Jaber al-Sabah; Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheik Muhammed Sabah al-Salim; Prince Al-Hasan; and Ali bin Nayef of Jordan all own villas and land in Yalıkavak.

From the Ottoman dynasty, Sultan Murad’s fifth grandchild, Osman Selaheddin Osmanoğlu, also owns a villa in Yalıkavak. The ownership of these villas and title deeds belong to either architects, embassy personnel, honorary consulates or relatives who live in Turkey.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas were spotted walking the streets of Bodrum, Turkey on Sunday night.

The Oscar-winning stars have been holidaying in Greece and touring Europe in a luxury yacht.

The pair, along with children Dylan, 11, and eight- year-old Carys, have been admiring the Acropolis Museum which houses masterpieces of ancient Greek civilisation and art, including sculptures, friezes, and figurines.

The couple was touring the European coast in their luxury yacht the Mary Juaner. Since they could not sail due to harsh weather conditions, they walked round Bodrum visiting a night club.

There presence in the town attracted a lot of attention with many local and foreign fans wanting to take photos of the star couple, who then retreated back to their yacht docked in the Bodrum Marina Yatch Club.

When ever there is a concert in the Amphitheater you should definitely get a concert ticket

The Bodrum Amphitheatre is a fourth-century B.C. amphitheater in Bodrum. It’s another structure accredited to the reign of King Mausolus, although it wasn’t fully completed until the Roman era. The theatre is another witness to the great past of Bodrum, and it is one of the best preserved structures of ancient Halikarnassus. Originally, it was built around 4th C BC during the reign of King Mausolos, in 2nd C AD, during the Roman period, it was enlarged and enriched.

Seating about 13.000 spectators the theater dates to the region of Mausolus but with modifications added by the Romans. With rock tombs above, the site provides an unequalled view of the city. Some of the seats at the theatre are inscribed with names probably those who had helped to pay for the theatre.

Today Turkcell and Ericsson have completely restorated the site of the Antique Theatre into an open air museum. The Bodrum Amphitheatre lies on the road to Gumbet and is used for concerts and shows during the high season.

Whenever you are in Bodrum and there is a concert in the Amphitheater you should definitely go and buy a concert ticket.

Bodrum Castle is is one of Bodrum's most recognizable landmarks

Bodrum Castle is is one of Bodrum’s most recognizable landmarks. The castle is also one of the world’s finest museums of underwater archeology housed in a superb 15th century castle built by the Knights of St. John of Rhodes. The world’s oldest known shipwreck exhibition is now open. This star attraction rates a ‘must see’ on everyone’s list.

The construction of the castle started in 1402 under the German knight-architect Heinrich Schlegelholt. Construction workers were guaranteed a reservation in Heaven by a papal decree of 1409. They used squared green volcanic stone, marble columns and reliefs from the nearby Mausoleum of Maussollos to fortify the castle.

For over a century St. Peter’s Castle remained the second most important castle of the Order. It served as a refuge for all Christians in Asia Minor.

The castle came under attack with the rise of the Ottoman Empire, first after the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and again in 1480 by sultan Mehmed II. The attacks were repelled by the Knights.

In June 1522 the sultan attacked the Order’s headquarters in Rhodes from the Bay of Marmaris with 200,000 soldiers. The castle of Rhodes fell in December 1522. The terms of surrender included the handing over of the Knights’ fortresses in Kos and St Peter’s Castle in Bodrum.

After the surrender, the chapel was turned into a mosque and a minaret was added. This mosque was called the Süleymaniye Camii, as attested by a traveler Evliya Chelebi, who visited Bodrum in 1671. The minaret was destroyed on 26 May 1915 by rounds fired by a French warship during the World War I. It has been reconstructed in its original shape in 1997.

Today Bodrum Castle is open to the public and it houses Bodrum’s remarkable Museum of Underwater Archaeology and also hosts several Turkish cultural festivals throughout the year.
